Light City Baltimore 2018: The Light Bringers

  • Baltimore Inner Harbor Baltimore, MD (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

I'm thrilled to be presenting new work this year at the Light City Festival.  The Light Bringers is an Emergency Choral Response Team that will make it's debut in two shows on two consecutive nights of the festival: Wednesday, April 18th between 7 and 10pm and Thursday, April 19th in the same time slot.  Calling attention to not often talked about aspects of Baltimore's and in particular the Inner Harbor's slavery legacies, The Light Bringers will provoke collective awareness and healing through a caroling ritual performance.  We will perform all along the main harbor-adjacent drag of the festival—and then some—so feel free to wander around and see us when you see us.  It will be a night to remember and, more importantly, for remembering.

A Flood of Emotions: A Play by Theresa Columbus

It'll be a grand ol' time once again when I reprise the role of Zeg in Theresa Columbus's whimsical, musical exploration of friendship and creativity.  This time we'll be blessing DC with the work, which I hear features a couple of new songs this time around!  It will definitely be a riot.  Check back for details.

LABBODIES Performance Art Review 2017: Freedom!

I'll be making my solo LABBODIES debut this December as part of their annual performance art review at SpaceCamp Gallery in Baltimore.  I will be presenting new work that explores the theme of freedom, specifically, the black political body in America.  The work is called, "Freedom Tarot/The Nigga Body Politic/What to the Slave is the 4th of July," which may or may not be what it sounds like, depending on what it sounds like.

Now Be Here

  • National Museum of Women in the Arts (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

I will be joining over 400 female and female identified DC/MD/VA-based artists in a photograph taken at the National Museum of Women in the Arts for the fourth and final installment of artist Kim Schoenstadt's Now Be Here, which began in Los Angeles at Hauser, Wirth and Schimmel and made stops in New York and Miami on its way to DC.  Programming highlighting women in the arts bolsters between October 17 and 30 in the DMV area, and following the taking of the photograph on October 25 there will be a cocktail reception and Artist Resource Fair.

Masjid Al Inshirah's 25th Anniversary Celebration

I'll be performing a set with the incredible Baltimore guitarist Quinton Randall to celebrate with a community I am delighted to be building a relationship with.  Tucked on the edge of suburban development, Inshirah is set on a naturally beautiful, expansive piece of land, once a farm, that still has the old farmhouse on it.  During the week, the farmhouse serves as a school (where I teach part time) that serves the community at large.  I can't wait to have this opportunity to show my gratitude through my art.

Son Little's "New Magic" Album Release

Sometime during the not-so spring we had here in Baltimore 2017 I wrote Miss Ona, an interlude (track 6) to Anti- recording artist Son Little's spectacular sophomore effort.  It's an excerpt from my as-yet unreleased song Miss Ona Henrietta, performed by the artist himself.
